A little about me and why I'm building this site
My first set of artist grade colored pencils were a gift from my Husband. I have enjoyed working with them so much, yet I remember the frustrations of "where to begin?" They're still fresh in my mind and sometimes I still get flustered when trying to find my way through a colored pencil piece. I have explored various ways and methods of achieving the end result and still have so much to learn, though I never get tired of trying. And, there's something to say about sharing your learning experiences with others, somehow for me it makes it much less frustrating and if I could help someone else along the way, it will make the discoveries even more worthwhile.
My name is Liesl, I am self-taught and by no means accomplished yet. Sometimes stubborn, and tend not to follow all the rules of design - as a result, I've had to learn much of this the hard way. When I discovered I could draw, it opened a whole new world for me, I dove right in and raced along, missing some of the keys to developing a successful drawing. I'm starting over, starting from the beginning again, this site was born out of attempting to document the process. I'll be doing some foundation building and fundamental exercises to help understand some of the basic principles I missed when I dove in head first the last time.
My recommendations for products or choices and even instructions on this site are hardly exhaustive. I prefer to discuss materials and techniques that I am familiar with thus far, however, I always want to endeavor to encourage others to do what comes naturally and to study for themselves. As I use more varying supplies and materials and as I gain more knowledge, I will expand my notes, so the content on this web site is always subject to change and growth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been married for fifteen years and have two young boys. My family comes before my quest for creating art and art education so the growth of this site may be slow at times.
My family is wonderfully supportive though and understands my fascination with learning about art and becoming an artist. This is just one of the reasons Colored Pencils are a great fit for me, there's no mess and no fuss, just a lot of fun!
